New Landlord-Tenant Bills May Pass with Landlord Support

After public hearings in February and being favorably voted out of committee last month, there are four landlord-tenant bills that may pass into law to make it easier for landlords in Massachusetts. These bills relate to:

• Late fees going from 30 days to 10 days
• Enacting rent escrowing during disputes
• Cleaning up the move and store law
• Changes to the process whereby complaints must be verified before a restraining order is issued

One of our goals at MassLandlords.net is to become large enough and influential enough to give these bills a better chance. We are currently planning to focus on the late fee bill, as it seems the most likely.
