The rent control ballot initiative proposed for 2026 deletes Chapter 40P, so we review the key provisions of Chapter 40P being deleted and what the new text would propose.

At the State House hearing on the 2026 rent control ballot question, renter advocates pitched a narrative of unfair 100% rent increases. When rent goes up that much, these are the reasons for it.
