Bed Bug Warning Sheet

When you're signing a rental agreement, you have a tenant's attention. You should use the time to educate them about a resurgent problem: bed bugs.

Bed bugs were eliminated from the US as a concern with the widespread use of pesticides. Since those pesticides have stopped being sprayed indiscriminately around our beds, bed bugs have wandered back in from parts of the world that never used pesticides the way we did.

If you get bed bugs, the cost to clear a unit of them will fall between a couple hundred and a couple thousand dollars. You want to avoid that. Help your tenants to realize what a nightmare they can fall into if they pick the wrong mattress off the street. Treatment usually requires the tenant to package all fabrics in plastic, launder all their clothes, and suffer one to three months of inconvenience.
