Common Traps for the Unwary Landlord

This presentation provides a legal overview of landlording, focusing on the common mistakes that landlords make, especially those that are the most costly.

We review basic requirements of:

  • Security deposits
  • Tenant screening and anti-discrimination
  • Lead paint
  • Notices to quit
  • Sanitary code
  • Pre-rental inspections
  • and more.

This presentation will not be an in-depth review of any particular topic, each of which could be an entire presentation on its own. But we will give a general compliance check.

A landlord with a bowl haircut runs toward a pile money, which sits underneath an open shipping container labeled Landlord-Tenant Law. The container is propped up by a stick, attached to which is a rope leading off screen. Someone off screen is prepared to pull the rope and trap the landlord.
