This presentation will introduce you to heat pump water heaters, a mature technology making big inroads in the Massachusetts rental market. We will teach:

• How heat pumps can take $1 of electricity to make $4 of hot water.
• Comparison of install cost vs gas or electric.
• Are there any cold climate considerations?
• How much maintenance is required vs gas?
• How heat pumps lower your climate policy risk.
• How to find and talk to contractors about heat pump domestic water.
• Are these so good you should you throw away a working gas water heater?

Part of this event will be presented by Paul Campbell, Director of Energy and Sustainability Marketing for ICF. Paul works closely with the Advanced Water Heating Initiative (AWHI), who have a goal of having 100% of water heaters using zero emissions heat pump technology by 2030. Paul's work has recently taken him to Washington, D.C. where he helped EnergyStar to recognize and promote heat pump water heaters. He leads the commercial group at AWHI and also contractor install education and awareness.
